Canwell Peak (Rainbow Ridge)

Starting from the end of Red Rock Canyon, a solid climb up a moderately steep hillside will take us to the base of the north ridge of Canwell Peak. We'll hop or wade across a shallow creek, then ascend the ridge to the summit. The ridge is moderately steep, and the footing is loose in a few sections, similar to but slightly more challenging than Donnelly Dome. The views from the peak are incredible, but if you have a fear of steep dropoffs, you may want to skip this hike.

  • Distance: 5 miles
  • Elevation gain: 2500 feet
  • Trail type: Unmarked alpine route
  • Difficulty: Moderate with a few difficult sections
  • Considerations: Some route finding and easy scrambling required.
