Snowmachine safety is imperative to a fun and safe riding time.
Join Outdoor Recreation for a snowmachine safety course and winter hazards orientation for advanced-riders, followed by a fun day at Summit Lake/Paxson area.
The Snowmachine Safety Course Level 2 - Advanced Riders is a training opportunity for those riders looking to enhance their current riding skills in more challenging terrain. All patrons must first have taken and passed our Snowmachine Safety Course Level 1 - Certification.
In this course, riders will go down to the Summit Lake/Paxson area, where they will learn to ride in deep snow powder conditions, read snow conditions, proper rider reactions. Patrons will also learn appropriate hill-climbing techniques and how to get your machine unstuck while navigating deep snow conditions.

Meeting place and time
- Outdoor Recreation, Bldg. 627
- Meeting time: 9:30 a.m.
- After orientation, we will proceed from Fort Greely to Summit Lake/Paxson area. The drive is approximately 1.5hrs.
- Return time: Between 5-6 p.m.
Patrons are encouraged to drive their own transportation and follow MWR staff to the location if possible to save room for patrons who do not have vehicles.
Winter Gear - What you should pack for your trip
- All riders need to dress warm and in layers with insulated underwear. Wear water resistant and insulated outerwear/footwear, boots, coats, snow pants, neck warmer, insulated gloves, balaclava is a must for the helmet. Tennis shoes are not allowed.
- Please feel free to consult with an Outdoor Rec staff member prior to your trip to ensure you have the proper gear prior to your trip.
- Don't forget the snacks and drinks for the trail.
Cost
$75 per person
Cost includes snow machine rental and fuel.

Open to All Authorized Users (Soldiers, Family Members, Civilians, Retirees and Direct Contractors) 18 years of age and older.

Pre-Requisite:
- Riders must have proof of completing the Safety Riders Course Level 1 prior to enrolling into Level 2.
