*Latrine Race Rules: 
Build an outhouse with wood and/or cardboard, put in a toilet seat & a roll of toilet paper, mount it on skis 
and AWAY WE GO! Your team will push it 500 ft. and could be the next Champion!

OUTHOUSE Specifications: 
1. Minimum height: 8 ft. from ground to the highest point on the main body, does not include flags,
signs, etc.
2. Minimum weight: No weight requirement, keep in mind the lightest may be the fastest.
3. Minimum size: 9 square ft. - Outhouse must be able to stand upright unassisted with the rider in it.
4. Outhouse frame (to include push bar) must be built with wood; the rest of the racer must be
structurally sound enough not to fall apart during the race.
a. Any outhouse deemed unsound or unsafe by the race committee, will not be allowed to race.
b. Suggested materials:

  • 6 each) 2x4s 8’ long
  • (3 each) 1x3s 8’ long
  • 2 lbs of screws
  • 3 1/2 sheets of plywood
  • Pair of snowboards or skis • Toilet seat
  • (1) toilet paper holder

5. Outhouse must have three (3) walls, and a roof or solid top brace.
6. Outhouse interior must contain a toilet seat with a hole that one (1) helmeted team member sits on/in
during the race. 
a. The seat must be attached securely to the outhouse, and for safety reasons, the rider must hold onto
some grasping device during the race. There must be toilet paper.


7. The outhouse must ride on wooden runners, snowboards, downhill skis, or cross-country skis.
8. Outhouses must be pushed or pulled by hand, by four (4) crew members.
9. Any device for grasping/pushing or pulling may be used except ropes or like materials/devices. All
grasping devices must be secured solidly to the outhouse. 
a. The device must not exceed the eight (6) feet maximum width requirement. Outhouses may have a logo,
company, or personal names painted on sides, top, or on the inside, but NOT required. 


10. Each outhouse should have a catchy theme. No explicit language or inappropriate displays will be
allowed on or in the outhouse.


TEAM Rules 
1. The Team will consist of:
• Five (5) members
• Three (4) pushers
• One (1) “throne” rider
(Must remain in the Outhouse throughout the entire race).
2. Participants must be at least 7 years old. There is no weight limit for the riders.
3. Two (2) registered alternates will be allowed per team.
• These alternates may ONLY
be used in case of injury, emergency, or any other unpreventable circumstance. The alternates
cannot be used to relieve a tired team member.


RACE Rules 
1. All Outhouses and Teams must be ready to check-in starting at 13:00 on Saturday, March 8.
2. The LATRINE must be pushed or pulled by HUMAN power only 500 feet to WIN. 3. Team members are
participating in the LATRINEs ON ICE race at their own risk. 4. All participants must wear proper winter
gear.
5. For safety reasons, a helmet, knee, and elbow guards are strongly recommended for all participants but
the team member riding in the outhouse is REQUIRED to wear a helmet.
6. Team members are encouraged but not required to wear identifying uniforms or costumes.
7. Outhouses must be kept in a designated area while not racing.
8. At the starting line, no portion of Outhouse may extend over the line. It will be the judge’s decision if a
restart is needed.
9. Changing positions during the race is not allowed.
10. The Outhouse must be under control of all pushers when crossing the finish line.
11. No unnecessary roughness will be allowed.
