Month of the Military Child is observed each April to honor and celebrate military children and youth for their service, commitment, and sacrifice in support of the Army's mission. The observance reiterates the Army’s commitment to provide quality care and positive youth development for a bright future. The April 2022 observance has the theme, “Military Children and Youth: Standing Strong and Proud"

April 1 - 30: Celebrating Month of the Military Child

April 1 - 30: Young Lives, BIG Stories

The Young Lives, BIG Stories contest gives Army-connected children and youth ages 3 through grade 12 the chance to tell their story about what it means to be a military child through pictures or written, audio, video submissions. 

April 4: Purple Up! For Military Kids

Wearing purple is a visible way to show support and thank military children and youth for their strength and sacrifices.

April 28: CYS Virtual College and Career Fair

Teens and parents: Is life after high school a big question mark? Feeling stressed when people ask what’s after graduation? Excited for the next big step…but unsure where to start? Have no fear! Prep for life after high school. Get ready to register for this great event!

April 1-30 MOMC Art Gallery - Come see the Month of the Military Child Art Gallery presented by Children and Youth from the Fort Greely Child & Youth Services.
  • Art Gallery is located at the Child Development Center (Bldg. 847) and Youth Center (Bldg. 653) Hallways, and will be available for viewing the whole month.
April 4

All Hands on Dec - Make a handprint red, white and blue camouflage. *Parent Participation.

April 5

MOMC Proclamation Ceremony - Join us in recognizing our resilient military-connected children.

  • Time: 12 p.m.
  • Location: Aurora Community Activity Center, Bldg. 500

Obstacle Relay and Ice Cream - Join us for a fun obstacle race, and enjoy a Grab & Go Ice Cream Kit for home.

April 6

Wacky Wednesday - Children and Youth are encouraged to wear their clothes backward, mismatched, crazy hair, crazy socks, etc.

April 7 Camouflage Thursday - Children and Youth are encouraged to get into the military spirit and wear something with camouflage.
April 8

Family Game Night - Let's get the fun started with our Family Game Night! Enjoy games, refreshments, and more. Open to Children and Youth enrolled in CYS programs and their families.

Crazy Hair Day - Children and Youth are encouraged to fix their hair in a crazy way.

April 12 Sports Day - Who's your favorite team? Show us your colors!
April 13

MOMC Superhero Day! Children and Youth are encouraged to dress as their favorite hero.

April 14

Home of the Brave Thursday - Children and Youth are encouraged to wear red, white and blue.

April 15

Purple Up! For Military Kids Parade - Cheer up our military children to let them know how proud we are of their bravery and resiliency. So purple Up! and join the children from the Child Development Center as they march in honor of the Month of the Military Child. *Purple shirts will be provided by the center.

April 18 Wear Red Day - Character Counts! Children and Youth are encouraged to wear red for caring.
April 19

Wear Orange DayChildren and Youth are encouraged to wear orange for fairness

April 21

Wear Yellow DayChildren and Youth are encouraged to wear yellow for responsibility.

April 22

Wear Blue Day Children and Youth are encouraged to wear blue for trustworthiness.

Open Mic Night - Military Kids are taking their talents to the next level! Join us and enjoy the show! All comedians, poets, artists, singers, dancers, and other talents are welcome. 

  • Time: 4-5 p.m.
  • Location: School Age Center, Bldg. 847
April 26-29 Guessing Jar Game - Estimate how many poms-poms are in the jar and win a prize!
April 29

50's Sock Hop Dance - Wear your 50s attire with crazy socks and hop into the dance.  Pizza and soft drinks will be served to all CYS Patrons and families.
