B.O.S.S. Castner Glacier Hike

Join Fort Greely BOSS on Saturday, April 24 for an exciting adventure exploring the wonders of Castner Glacier! This easy hike leads to a huge ice cave at the glacier terminus. 

  • Route Length (half-day): 1.25+ mile (one-way), negligible elevation gain
    • Difficulty Rating: Easy to Moderate
  • Route Length (full-day): up to 3 miles (one-way), 500 feet elevation gain 
    • Difficulty Rating: Moderate to Difficult

B.O.S.S. will provide transportation. Just bring yourself and don't forget to dress appropriately for the cold.

  • Must be a B.O.S.S. eligible Service Members to participate. (Single Service Members, Single with Dependents, and Geo-Bachelors.
  • Registration deadline: April 22

Suggested Packing List for a Winter Day Hike

  • Clothing and Footwear- Appropriate footwear (for most people this means waterproof boots), Non-cotton insulating layers (think wool, fleece, down, and synthetics like Capilene), Weatherproof outer layer, Hat, gloves, and face protection (appropriate for your activity level), Extra socks
  • Food and Drink - Snacks (or meals, depending on hike length), Water (consider an insulated hydration reservoir and sleeve, or a thermos, if temperatures are below freezing)
  • Comfort and Survival - Sunglasses if you’ll be around snow or ice, Headlamp and extra batteries, Navigation aid (guidebook, map/compass, GPS), Backpack , Don’t forget your emergency kit!
